The Ascent is an immersive discipleship experience that combines classroom learning with life-on-life discipleship. As a full-time student in Greenville, SC, you will find yourself in true biblical community of believers—invited into relationship but also challenged to follow where God is leading. You will spend time in class, in our homes, with each other, in outreach and evangelism, and serving the local body.

SHEMA

LISTEN & OBEY

The main tool for discipleship we use is shema - a process of listening to God and doing what He says. Your leader and other students in your "shema group" will help you understand God's voice and process what He is saying to you.

In Hebrew, the word shema means to listen, but there was not a separate word that meant "to obey". When God asks His people to listen (shema), He is asking them to listen and obey. If you are not obeying, you have not listened.

You will meet with your Shema group weekly to process what God is saying to you and how you are responding to Him.

2

The Story

The Bible is our curriculum. This class meets daily and has an aggressive reading plan to read the entire Bible during the school year. We look at the scripture through the lens of story with the understanding that we are part of the very same story today!

3

Rhema

Rhema is a Greek word meaning "utterance". It is a spoken word. The Rhema Word of God is that which is spoken for now. You will attend multiple Rhema classes weekly covering topics like Spiritual Disciplines, Intimacy with God, The Life of King David, and Evangelism and Outreach

4

Book Studies

Book Study classes meet weekly, reading and discussing extra-Biblical books that have been influential to the leadership of the Ascent, including: Abba's Child by Brennan Manning and Undercover by John Bevere.

5

Service

As a student at The Ascent you will participate in various outreach and service activities as well as serving in various roles during Bridgeway Churches Sunday services.
